Why Kilimajaro, why now.

Since I returned from my Tanzania trip in 2010 with Kelly Coladarci of Humane Society International I have been involved with the Huheso Foundation in Kahama District.  With the help of Juma Mwesigwa, I have been able to assisting women and children through out 2011.  For the women I began helping with them receive sewing machines so they could learn a trade and become tailors to support their household.  The birth of women entrepreneurs and small business.

One the new year arrived I wanted to have a goal for myself that would challenge me physically and mentally, and suddenly I thought Kilimanjaro.  But it did not stop there. I thought with the climb I could continue my community service work by helping create awareness and funds for the women of East Africa.

Juma thought it was a great idea. The idea spread on Facebook and rallied the support of Alex Kilele of the Kilele Foundation in Kenya.  Both Juma and Alex spend much of their time developing and executing programs to benefit women who are HIV positive, battled cancer, and are tasked with being solo providers of their families.

So for me the climb has begun.
